Canadian Pacific's Abandoned Chalk River Subdivision Part 4

I made the trek into Smiths Falls to capture the beginning of the Chalk River Subdivision. This is where it left the yard in Smiths Falls and began it's long journey to North Bay, Ontario. The rails were left in until the first road crossing to allow trains arriving into Smiths Falls from Montreal room off of the main when they have drops to do in Smiths Falls. They can run up a mile or so of former Chalk trackage. As the pictures show, it is regularly used to a point. In using this track, they are completely off the mains for the Belleville and Winchester subs. As we see, some things are still visible such as a signal base, control box, whistle post, mile marker, etc.

The first two tracks, starting on the left, are the Belleville Sub main. Third track is the Chalk River Sub and the far right is the start of Via's Smiths Falls Sub.

The signal bridge in the background used to stand watch over the Chalk River subdivision.

The old signal bridge again.

The signals on the left rule the remaining track of the former Chalk River Subdivision.

The beginning of the Smiths Falls Subdivision as seen from the former Chalk River Sub tracks.

Signals that currently govern the remaining track.

Looking towards the yard, Smiths Falls sub trackage on the left, Chalk in the middle, then right two are the Belleville sub main.

Signals to govern the remaining Chalk River sub track in regards to entering the yard.

Where it left the Belleville Sub main tracks behind and headed to North Bay.

What's left of a signal base.

Remains of the base for the signal control box.

The signal control box. I found it disappointing that they just tipped it over into the steep ditch instead of removing it.

Belleville Sub tracks in the background.

I'm not sure what the green sign was for.

An old telegraph pole waits to send a message.

Pails dumped in the ditch.

Canadian Pacific's Abandoned Chalk River Subdivision Part 3

A continuation of the photos I took on a nice sunny Sunday while out for a walk with the dog.

Some railway ties standing upright in the swamp with wire strung on them for some purpose.

One plus after the line was abandoned, is the new life born, as evidenced by the small green tree sprouting up from the ground. To the left of the small tree, there's a piece of a railway tie from the former line.

The West side of a culvert that ran under the right of way.

The East side of the same culvert.

Ferguson Tetlock Road looking West where the crossing was.

The right of way after it crossed Ferguson Tetlock Road heading towards Carleton Place, Ontario.
